Kindergarten Meet and Greet

Incoming Kindergartners and your families: Come join us on the playground! Here is the opportunity you have been looking for to connect with the Parkwood-Upjohn community. Meet new and returning families and school staff, get answers to those nagging questions and make some friends. A light snack or treat will be provided.

5th Grade Golf Outing – Sunday, September 25 Tee Time: 11:00 a.m.
States Golf Course – Schoolcraft
This is a great fundraiser for 5th grade campers to enjoy a week at Sherman Lake! Parkwood families don’t pay to have their children attend camp because of the generosity of families who help raise funds to send them and wonderful grant opportunities. More details coming soon on how you can help out!

As of 4:00 p.m. February 12, we are still a go for the Valentine’s Day dance at Parkwood Upjohn tonight. If it ends up being cancelled, we’ll send out another post. Please be careful driving if you are out and about!
If you purchased fast passes just go right through the Fast Pass Entrance and give your name and you’ll be in. Otherwise admission is $3.00 per person or $10.00 for the entire family living in that household.
Here’s some of the awesome things in store…cookies, candy, popcorn and craft free to you! We will also be handing out mustaches to the kids at the door. The following will be available for purchase:

Friday, October 30 – Literacy Parade starting at 2:30 p.m.
Come watch the kids showcase their class’s book as they walk around the block (inside event if weather is bad). This includes PEEP through 3rd grade, with each classroom creating a costume based on a book.
Friday, October 30 – Fall Family Fun Festival – 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
A new event for Parkwood! Come dressed up in your non-scary costume and have fun dancing and hanging out with friends! Pizza and other fun treats will be available! $2.00 per person / $10.00 Family Max ($3.00 at Door)

Open House and PTO Meeting
The Open House starts at 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Come see your child’s classroom, find out about the PTO, and sign-up to help out at Hoopla scheduled for November 13.
The PTO will be holding their first meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. This is a great time to see where you can help make Parkwood awesome!

5th Grade Golf Fundraiser
This annual event raises funds for 5th grade camp. We have a great course at The States in Schoolcraft with tee time starting at 11:00 a.m. Even if you don’t have a team, come on out and we’ll pair you with a team. We need food as well for the event. Check out the Parkwood-Upjohn PTO website for more details.

This is an ADULT ONLY event with a chance to talk to teachers in a more casual setting. Stop over for a snack and beverage to start your weekend.
September 21 – FIRST DAY OF PEEP! Welcome!
September 22 – Open House 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. PTO Meeting @ 7:00 p.m.
This is a chance to see your child’s classroom and learn more about Parkwood. Stay for the first PTO meeting of the year at 7:00 in the GYM to hear what events are coming up during the school year and how you can be involved in making Parkwood great!

REMINDER: There was a change in the start and end time this year. Entry Bell is at 8:44 with Tardy Bell at 8:50 a.m. Dismissal Bell is 3:50 p.m. (full day) and 11:58 a.m. (half day). If your child arrives after 8:50 a.m., you MUST sign them in at the office. Also, please make sure you pick your child up at the end of the day and not before. Early dismissals interrupt the learning environment.

Be sure to join the Parkwood Upjohn family for the Back to School BBQ on Tuesday, September 1 starting at 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Hotdogs, watermelon, and other snacks will be available. Come and find out who your child has this year, meet the teachers, learn about the PTO and other activities offered at the school, and meet with other families as we gear up for back to school. This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. If it rains, we’ll be visiting in the gym.

Happy Snow Day! (or is it Happy Snow WEEK?) We sure hope you are all having fun enjoying the snow of Michigan and the days off that come with cold and inches of the white stuff. The PTO has been busy planning fun events to break the winter cold:
Movie Night – Friday, January 16 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Come to the Frozen Sing-along! Sing with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf and enjoy an evening with friends. Parents are welcome too! Pizza, popcorn and treats will be available for purchase. Funds from this movie night will help purchase Raz-Kids for the 1st graders at Parkwood-Upjohn.
If you are dropping off your child, you will need to have contact information left with staff. Please be ready to provide information when signing your child in at door.
Valentine’s Day Dance
Friday, February 13 6:30 – 8:30
Please join us for a full family night of fun on Friday, February 13th from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Parkwood Upjohn gym!
There will be dancing, crafts and snacks!! Fun for the whole family!
Advanced ticket prices will be $2.00 per person or $3.00 at the door. Or $10.00 per household.
This is not a drop off event. A parent/guardian must be in attendance for this event with child.

Come clean out your closets or get those summer clothes for the kids! Sponsored by the Parkwood-Upjohn PTO. Contact Minchie Brockman (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions about the event. Registration forms are available at the PTO website.
Are you coming tomorrow? Hoopla starts at 6:00 pm at Milwood Middle School. If you didn’t get a Fast Pass, $2 gets you in the door. Almost 200 items were donated for this year’s event, with items ranging from a kids’ bike to park passes at Disney to gift certificates for many restaurants in the area. Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat from the 5th Graders Concession Stand. All of their proceeds benefit their trip to Sherman Lake in December. The basketball game starts at 6:45 pm with the teachers geared up to take on the Milwood and Maple staffs.
The PTO hopes you have a great time and enjoy the Parkwood spirit during this fun event!
November 7 is fast approaching! The PTO Board has been working hard to get volunteers in place, making sure the game will be super fun, and securing auction items that will make the night unique. Here is the outline for the night’s activities:
6:00 Doors open and auction opens
Face Painting, Caricatures, Temporary Tattoos, Spirit Shop, Concessions
6:45 Basketball Game Starts in Gym
Auction will end 15 minutes after basketball game ends
Fast Pass Forms are due Monday, November 3. $1.00 in advance and $2.00 at the door
Be sure to bring your child’s classroom Hoopla basket items in this week. ALL AUCTION ITEMS DUE NOVEMBER 3. Questions about auction can be directed to Susan Pritchard.
We still need a few volunteers to help with setup at Milwood Middle between 2:30 and 5:30. If you can give some time, contact Dawn Wright or email the PTO Board.
